Olympus

A krewe is something similar to a social club or gathering which is organized to celebrate the carnival season in New Orleans’ Madi Gras season. The krewe members that belong to these clubs generally have to pay a fee. This fee is taken in lieu of paying for expenses of the Krewe’s activities and a variety of other events. Many of these krewes hold annual balls which present their debutantes and monarchs. Some of these krewes even organize their parades. The Krewes Olympus is one of the many krewes taking part in the Madi Gras carnival in Louisiana each year.

This Krewes Olympus is a Madi Gras Krewe which is based in Houston, Texas in the United States. The Krewes Olympus first began in the 1970s in New Orleans. The membership of this krewe is generally open to anyone, but they consider themselves one of the most predominately gay and largest groups in the United States. The main objective of Krewe Olympus is to put on theatrical productions and education events that help continue the traditions of the Mardi Gras carnival as well as to raise funds to donate to community charities. The Krewe Olympus since moving to Houston has registered as a non profit organization and has raised thousands of dollars to donate to charity organizations in both Dallas and Houston. The Krewe Olympus similar to all other krewes hold its annual ball in Louisiana at the time of the Mardi Gras carnival.
